Validation. Humans crave it, and as most readers know, it is incredibly affirming to be able to relate to the struggles and identities of a fictional character. I love talking about book characters who are relatable for me, which is why I’m using today’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt (characters that remind me of myself) to share a few of them with you all.
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme run by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

Lara Jean Song Covey (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before)
Lara Jean is the best. She really loves her family and she’s into crafting. She’s kind of anxious. She loves romance but is too much of a chicken to ask anyone out. I really loved reading about her. I actually wrote a whole appreciation post for the series, which can be found here.
Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
Of course I had to include Hermione Granger on this list. Just like me, she loves reading and learning things, and I think it meant a lot to me that I was able to read about this girl when I was little who showed me that it’s okay to be smart and nerdy and assertive. I think Emma Watson herself (my role model, honestly) sums it up beautifully:
Cath Avery (Fangirl)
Cath!! I loved reading about Cath because, like me, she’s an introvert and someone who likes to hole up in her room and read and write. I also found it super relatable that she was really obsessed with a book series, even though the other people in her life outgrew it.
Rosalind (The Penderwicks)
I love all of the characters in this series with all my heart, but I always related to Rosalind the most, because she’s the sensible, older sibling type. (And because we both have three younger siblings!)
Quiet Girl in a Noisy World
Okay so this is kind of cheating because it’s a book and not a character, but this memoir-ish collection of comics is the most relatable book ever. You can read more in my review, but basically, it’s a spot-on depiction of introvert life that just made me fill up with happiness because it felt like every single page had me going like, “omg same! I didn’t realize other people feel this too!”

Have you read any of the books that I mentioned? Who are some of the most relatable characters for you? I’d love to hear about them in the comments!

Hermione was such a popular answer this week! I think it’s great that so many people identify with her.

I’ve only read two out of your five – TATBILB and Harry Potter – and I agreed. While I love Lara Jean, I think at times I dislike her because I see parts of me in her that I don’t love or find somewhat annoying (but still, overall, LOVE her). With Hermione, I never related to her because I was never seen as the smart, assertive girl. I always looked up to Hermione and wished I could be seen like her. Such great characters. I’ll have to look into your other suggestions too 🙂

Cath is SO relatable ❤️ I’m going to be freshman in college next year and I’m hoping to avoid some of her Cather style problems, but I suppose we’ll see! At least I’ve learned something from literature!

These are all lovely girls you relate to! Hermione is a character I also relate to, and I love Lara Jean’s fashion (I’ve only watched the movie). It’s nice to see that you and I are introverts haha I also enjoy bullet journaling, though I’m a minimalist. I think we could have been good friends ❤
