December ’18 Recap | Holidays & Rest

Happy New Year, friends! December was a month that, for me, mostly consisted of resting, which was very very nice! (And I am sad that it’s over.) I also read a lot of books and did some other fun things, so get ready for my recap of the month of December!

December '18 Recap | Holidays & Rest

I reached my reading goal for 2018!! As you may recall, I completed my original goal back in October, but I decided to make 100 books my secondary goal, which I reached on the very last day of the year.

Books Read in December:

Book covers are from Goodreads and link to the books’ respective Goodreads pages.

Flashback Frankenstein The Disasters Swing Heartstopper

Flashback | Loved!! This is one of my favorite series and these books hold a special place in my heart.

Frankenstein | (Read for school) I found this to be pretty interesting.

The Disasters | Loved this book too! It was such a fun, light space adventure.

Swing | I think this book is really good and well-written, but I couldn’t really get into it because I listened to the audiobook. I don’t think that was the right choice for me with this book—I kept on getting distracted, and I could never figure out who was talking. I’ll probably re-read it as a physical book at some point, because I do think that I would enjoy it that way!

Heartstopper | Absolutely adorable, as always. It was so fun to read this as an actual book after having read the webcomic version. (Which, btw, you can read for free here!)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone The Stratford Zoo Midnight Revue Presents Macbeth Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Comics Squad: Recess!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone | (Re-read) A super fun re-read. I noticed so much more of the foreshadowing and everything now that I’m older and have read all the books a bunch of times.

The Stratford Zoo Midnight Revue Presents Macbeth | This is a really cute graphic novel retelling of Shakespeare’s Macbeth where the play is being put on by zoo animals.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets | (Re-read) Loved reading this one too, as always.

Comics Squad: Recess! | I borrowed this comic anthology from my brother (I gave it for him for Christmas last year) for a quick read to finish up my Goodreads challenge on New Year’s Eve, and was thoroughly entertained.

Books Received in December:

I was given two books this month as gifts, Children of Blood and Bone, and Here We Are: Feminism for the Real World, both of which I am super excited to read!

On My Block | This series showed up on my recommended list on Netflix, so I decided to give it a shot. I’m so glad I did! I love all of the characters so much (Especially Jamal! And Ruby is so adorable and Jasmine is hilarious.) and the end of the last episode was DEVASTATING. I cannot wait for season two later this year!

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse | I saw the new Spider-Man movie in the theater this month and loved it. It was so innovative and the animation was gorgeous and I love the soundtrack.

Modern Family | I started watching this with my family in December since we were all on winter break and gosh, it’s HILARIOUS.

December was a pretty nice, relaxed month for me. The biggest exciting thing that happened is that my family got a dog!! This is Kipper and I love him so much. (I am also very pleased that I was able to capture this moment when he was sitting on my sister’s bed and looked like he was reading her book.)

Aside from spending time with Kipper and my other family members, I celebrated Christmas this month and had a great time sleeping in. (I miss it already. *cries*)

  2. I hope you’re having a happy new year so far! 🙂 Congrats on all the books you read in December, that’s amazing. I read Frankenstein for school too (in November) and while I didn’t like annotating it, it was actually pretty good. Harry Potter rereads are always so fun! Your new dog is SO CUTE, oh my gosh. I love the picture of him reading. XD I hope the rest of your month is amazing!

    1. You’re so sweet, thank you Olivia! Yeah, I had some mixed feelings about the annotating, because on the one hand, it helped me understand and remember stuff about the story, but it also made the homework reading take FOREVER. Ah yeah he’s so sweet, I’m very lucky 🙂 I hope you have a great rest of your month too! ❤ ❤

  3. Great post, Annie! I’m glad that you enjoyed your December and that you got to relax a lot, haha. (I’m so sad that winter break is almost over. 😭) I watched Into the Spider-Verse a few days ago, and I absolutely loved it! The visuals, animations, and characters were all amazing. 😍
