Happy Top Ten Tuesday! Today’s prompt for TTT, which is a weekly meme run by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl, is platonic relationships in books. I was super excited to see this prompt! Today’s post will be focusing on friendships in books because bookish friendships are my absolute FAVORITE.
It was actually harder than I anticipated to come up with ten friend duos that I really love (these should really be in books more often!) but I think I was able to get a pretty good list.
Harry & Hermione
The golden trio is of course an obvious choice for this list. I love all three of the main characters in the Harry Potter books, but I wanted to focus specifically on Harry and Hermione. They always support each other and I just love their dynamic so much
“Harry – you’re a great wizard, you know.”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
“I’m not as good as you,” said Harry, very embarrassed, as she let go of him.
“Me!” said Hermione. “Books! And cleverness! There are more important things – friendship and bravery and – oh Harry – be careful!”
Frances & Aled
Close friendships like Frances and Aled’s (especially ones between a girl and a boy) in Alice Oseman’s Radio Silence are so rare to find in books, and it made me so happy to read about these two.
(Um isn’t this art of Frances and Aled by the author the most precious thing ever???)
Darius & Sohrab
Darius and Sohrab from Darius the Great Is Not Okay (You can read my review here!) are the absolute sweetest. Sort of like Frances and Aled, what I love about these boys is how vulnerable they are with each other.
“The thing is, I never had a friend like Sohrab before. One who understood me without even trying. Who knew what it was like to be stuck on the outside because of one little thing that set you apart.”
Adib Khorram, Darius the Great Is Not Okay
Emi & Charlotte
As I mentioned in my review of Everything Leads to You, the relationship between the main character, Emi, and her friend Charlotte is one of my favorite parts of the book. Everything Leads to You in general is so beautiful and magical in a not-fantasy way.
Auggie & Summer
I couldn’t write a post about friendship without including Wonder, which is just the most wonderfully wholesome book. The friendship that develops between the protagonist, Auggie, and a girl in his class named Summer is especially sweet.
Ruby & Clancy
This code-cracking 13 year-old spy and her best friend (from the Ruby Redfort series) is another favorite duo of mine. I love how loyal they are and how they always have each other’s backs.
You know me, Ruby. I never blab—never.
Lauren Child, Ruby Redfort: Look Into My Eyes
Anne & Diana
My favorite kindred spirits! Anne of Green Gables has always been a favorite of mine.
Lauren & Sierra
These two are from Cordelia Jensen and Laurie Morrison’s middle grade book, Every Shiny Thing. (Review here!) Their friendship and the way in which these characters develop are some of the reasons why I love this book.
Laila & Zofia
These girls are from a very recent read of mine, The Gilded Wolves (which is a 2019 release that I will be reviewing very soon!). Laila is so protective and thoughtful of Zofia and it is the absolute sweetest. (Also side note: this is a REALLY good book that you should definitely keep your eye out for when it releases in January!)
Stevie & Sanger
The kind of intense, known-each-other-your-whole-lives friendship that everyone dreams of. (These kids are from another recent read, Lucky Few by Kathryn Ormsbee.)

Who are some of your favorite friend pairs in books? Let me know in the comments!

Ahh what a great list! I love friendships in books just as well and I love Harry and Hermione’s friendship and Frances and Aled SO much (that fanart is STUNNING, I love it so much!).
Another friendship I have in mind right now is from A Quiet Kind of Thunder, between the main character Steffi and Tem. It’s a wonderful friendship and it’s so realistic, too, I loved them ❤

This is a wonderful list! Frances and Aled’s friendship is so soft and they look so cute in that picture 😍 I’m in love with Roshani Chokshi’s writing, so I’m already super excited for The Gilded Wolves. Knowing there’s a strong female friendship in it makes me even more excited to get my hands on it! Lovely post 😊
