Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

A love letter to the craft and romance of film and fate in front of—and behind—the camera from the award-winning author of Hold Still.

A wunderkind young set designer, Emi has already started to find her way in the competitive Hollywood film world

Emi is a film buff and a true romantic, but her real-life relationships are a mess. She has desperately gone back to the same girl too many times to mention. But then a mysterious letter from a silver screen legend leads Emi to Ava. Ava is unlike anyone Emi has ever met. She has a tumultuous, not-so-glamorous past, and lives an unconventional life. She’s enigmatic…. She’s beautiful. And she is about to expand Emi’s understanding of family, acceptance, and true romance.

UGh tHis BoOK is SO BeAutifUL. Here’s why I loved it:

1. Characters & relationships

I fell in love with Emi and Charlotte and Ava as they were swept into a magical summer of movies and romance. Emi and Charlotte’s friendship in particular was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. They were such bff GOALS and they were always looking out for each other and their personalities complement each other so well! The romance between Emi and Ava was sweet and not too fast and just generally well done also.

2. Cool movie stuff

I really, really loved the movie-making and set design aspects of Everything Leads to You. Set design seems like an incredible profession (possible future job???) and it was super cool to read about. I actually feel like I learned a bit about how set design works and all the thought that goes into set pieces for a film, which was really exciting!

3. Hollywood setting & aesthetic

Everything Leads to You‘s vivid Hollywood setting was absolutely beautiful, as was the book’s aesthetic overall. (I loved it so much that I made an aesthetic board, which you can see below.)

4. Addictive writing

This isn’t an incredibly action-y book, but I was hooked from the start.
