6 Ways to Use Washi Tape in Your Bullet Journal

Picture this:

You’re in your room. You’ve just returned from the craft store and are unloading your filled-to-the-brim plastic shopping bag. You’re just a smidge proud of yourself because you used your gift cards and coupons to stock up on lots of supplies and you still spent less money than you thought you would.

Rolls of washi tapes tumble out onto your floor like marbles, and you scramble to grab them all and place them in your washi tape bowl/tray/storage container/very large sack.

You take a step back.

You tilt your head to the side.

And you think to yourself, “How the heck am I going to use all this?”

We’ve all been there. (Well, not all of us. Some of us are smart shoppers who know when we have enough of something.) (I don’t think I am included in “some of us.”)

So what do you do when you realize that you have too much washi tape? Stick it in your bullet journal, of course. To help all of you out there who need to thin out your washi tape stashes, I’ve put together this list of six ways you can use washi tape in your bujo.

Decorate Pages

This one is the most obvious and very straightforward. If you place a strip or two of washi tape on one of your pages, it usually spruces it up and makes the page look more exciting. This is also a great way to fill up empty space in your journal.

Tape in Pictures or Mementos

Washi is a great way to put items such as photos or ticket stubs in your journal, especially if you don’t have any double-sided tape on hand.

Write Headers on Washi Tape

Writing directly on washi tape will really make a page header stand out. Just be careful about what kind of pen you use—Sharpie markers are the only ones I’ve found that go on well and don’t smear.

Use Washi as an Underline

If you don’t want to put your headers on washi, you can use tape to underline your title.

Cover Mistakes

If you mess up, don’t worry! Just cover your mistake with washi tape.

Bookmark Important Pages

The notebook I have has two bookmarks attached, and sometimes I feel like I could use some more because I like being able to quickly flip to my monthly log. My solution? Putting washi on the edge of all my monthlies. This also works really well as a divider between different months in your journal.

Just line the tape up on whichever page you want to bookmark so half of the tape is on the page and half is hanging off, and then fold it over and trim the edges.
