10 YA Books Releasing in Summer 2018 That I'm REALLY Excited About

There are so many exciting books coming out this summer! It was difficult, but I managed to narrow the list down to my top ten summer releases.

Dear Rachel Maddow (June 5th) is told through a series of emails sent from the main character to her idol, tv host Rachel Maddow. I read an excerpt from Jasmine @ Life of a Simple Reader and was hooked by the way the story is told through emails. I love books with this sort of unique formatting! The Last Summer of the Garrett Girls (June 5th) is a super fun contemporary that follows four sisters during their last summer together. You can hear me rave about it in my review, here!

Summer of Salt (June 5th) is another one that I’ve already gotten to read, and I am SO glad I had the opportunity to read it. It’s atmospheric and beautiful and a bit dark, and it explores themes of feminism and sister relationships and if you can’t tell already, I LOVED IT. You can read my review here. I pre-ordered A Thousand Perfect Notes (June 7th) from Book Depository and I cannot wait for it to arrive! It’s about music and abuse and I think it’s going to be amazing because it’s written by one of my favorite bloggers.

Running With Lions (June 7th) sounds like an adorable friends-to-enemies-to-lovers story with an mlm couple. The main character is a soccer player, which makes me super excited because I feel like I haven’t read a whole lot of YA books that include sports, something I really love. Not the Girls You’re Looking For (June 19th) makes me think of C-3PO every time I see it, but it actually has nothing to do with Star Wars, lol. The book follows a girl and her squad of friends during the month of Ramadan. I heard it has great family dynamics, something I always love in novels.

From what I’ve read about Wild Blue Wonder (June 26th), it sounds a bit similar to Summer of Salt—ocean vibes, family relationships, feminism—and considering I loved that one, I’m excited to pick up Wild Blue Wonder. This is another book with athletes in it! A Thousand Beginnings and Endings (June 26th) is an anthology comprised of stories by various YA authors (including Renee Adieh, Roshani Chokshi, Cindy Pon, and more) that are based in Asian mythology. The combination of a stellar lineup of authors and an interesting subject that I don’t know much about mean that this collection is sure to be fabulous.

Heretics Anonymous (August 7th) sounds like an incredibly interesting exploration of religion. The premise is that an atheist is forced by his parents to go to Catholic school, where he forms a society of misfits called Heretics Anonymous. It sounds super funny but also thought-provoking! I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Fresh Ink (August 14th), an anthology from We Need Diverse Books with works from the likes of Walter Dean Myers, Jason Reynolds, etc. I can’t wait to dive into it!
