5 Different Types of Bullet Journals

types of bujos

If you’re a part of the online bullet journal community, there’s one thing you’ll know for sure; everyone bullet journals differently. That’s the beauty of the system—its users have the power to adapt their journals to fit their needs. Depending on who you are and what you want to get out of your bullet journal, your journal could go in a million different directions.

For beginners, looking at all the different styles of bullet journal on Pinterest or Instagram can sometimes be overwhelming. In my experience, finding your own personal journaling style that fits your wants and needs is one of the most important (and fun!) things to do as a beginning bullet journalist.

In today’s post, I’ll be showcasing 5 different styles of bullet journaling. As I mentioned earlier, there are a million different ways to bullet journal, and there are no limits, so I won’t come close to representing every style. It is my hope that reading this post will give you some inspiration and help you figure out what journaling style most suits you.

The Minimalist

Clean lines and simple handwriting, usually all black and white. For some, the thing that works best for them is to stick to the original system, which is very minimalistic.

The Artsy Journal

Fancy lettering, detailed drawings, and lots of color. Many artistic people use their bullet journals as a place to draw, make art, and let their creativity run wild.

The Super Organized Journal

Everything neat and in its place. If you want a very organized journal, try compartmentalizing things with boxes and tables.

Scrapbook Style

I have seen a ton of super pretty bujos that incorporate to-do lists, pictures, washi tape, sticky notes, and drawings to make gorgeous spreads that look a bit like scrapbook pages.

Recommended supplies: washi tape, Post-It notes

And there you have it! A list of just five of the many styles of bullet journaling. How would you categorize your own journal? What other types of bullet journals would you add to this list?

Peace!

  3. I have an Ink & Volt planner that I love love love… it’s like my little companion. I adore the layout because it includes prompts but still leaves a lot of room for customization and creativity. Thanks for the inspirational list!

I would totally describe mine as a mess. 😂 I just started bullet journaling, so I like to use a different layout for every single page. I will probably switch to using just a few that I really like once I move out of my current journal, but there is so much random stuff going on in my journal, they I don’t even know where to begin… But that’s the cool part about bullet journals, right? You can do whatever you want with them. ^-^

    1. Yes, exactly! If you mess up, you can just start another page. And don’t worry, I think everyone’s journal is a mess at the beginning…mine certainly was! It just takes some practice to figure out what works best for you. I feel like my journal is always changing and evolving, which is why it’s so cool to have such a flexible system!

This is so cool. I kind of think the first style defeats the purpose of having a bullet journal for me. May as well get any notebook. I love the idea of combining creativity with organisation and love the artsy versions but don’t think I would be that style of journaler. I think the scrapbook style appeals to me the most. Getting excited about starting one of these. We’ll see what happens.

I think I’m a mix of a few. It depends on what mood I am in, but I get a lot of inspiration from Boho Berry, so a mix between a doodler, minamlist and super organised ahah!
